Agnostic Digital Transformation - Episode 2

In our #Episode1, we introduced the discussion about why #DigitalTransformation is usually driven by Technology Vendors or System Integrators with the intention is to enforce or seduce about their solutions and services portfolio. In this #Episode2, we’d like to initiate an interesting and connected discussion: Single or Multiple Vendors Solutions.

#DigitalTransformation process should start from the Strategic level, to support new ventures, products or revenue streams, cost savings, quality of service improvements or risk mitigation. By the way, we understand legacy systems upgrade or replacement, as a strategic decision related with the mitigation of risks, and not as a Technology decision.

After achieving the 1st draft of the Future Model of Operation (#FMO), basically considering company’s #Strategy, #Businesses, #Processes and #Organization, #Solutioning that could support the #Technology layer jumps on the table, as well as Vendors and SIs presales teams.

#Solutioning could be approached mapping each business/process/department with the best technology offer, however, beyond the infinite integration and data synchronization options currently available, probably the tentative solution will look as a “Frankenstein”. This means that, not necessary the best #CRM, with the best #ERP, with the best #HR and the best #WorkflowManagement solution will “run smoothly” and, without replication and reconciliation issues. By the way, a great proportion of #Transformation projects fail.

Is this mean that Solution should belong to only 1 Vendor? Probably not, but in our opinion, the success rate of #DigitalTransformation projects is inversely proportional to the number of vendor solutions involved.

Should the previous recommendation be understood that, best practice is to choose a Single-Vendor solution? Neither, probably a #BalancedArchitecture of different components will maximize value added, however, never forget that as much components are involved, more #Risks and #Overheads are going to be there.

Dear #DigitalTransformationCommunity, this is just our humble opinion with the intention to trigger an open discussion…
